A bit about me and why I created this website...

I am a second year Master of Education student at Queens University where I have been studying primary education and literacy development. This is also my fourth year working as an Occasional Teacher with a public school board. I have spent most of the last two years teaching the primary grades (K-3), which has fueled my passion for developing this website. Through my experiences as a Graduate student in Education, I have discovered so much information that has drastically improved my teaching practice, which I probably would not have discovered through teaching alone. A lot has been theory and research-based, and having the time, I have broken this information down to an applicable classroom level. And through my experiences teaching, I have found an increasing stress put on the development and encouragement of self-regulation skills for students, with research fully supporting the long-term benefits of these skills and emphasis placed in documents such as Growing Success and Achieving Excellence (Ontario Ministry of Education). In addition to my interest in self-regulation, I have noticed a void in teaching writing as it is so frequently overshadowed by reading, with more additional qualifications devoted to reading and more time spent daily on reading skill development in classrooms (when in fact it should be equal with writing). Hence through this, I decided to create a website for my Master's Project that can be applicable to all teachers and administrators, and hopefully become a resource that can be used for lesson planning and classroom practice. This website is all supported by empirical research and evidence, with additional resources that you can go to for more information about any of the topics listed! Happy website browsing :)
